Spring has well and truly sprung – there’s even a hint of summer in the air – so time for some Days Out around Strangford!

The National Trust properties in our area have some great days out coming up:

Castle Ward ( closest to us – just down the road in fact!) has two “Ramble with our Ranger” days from 2-3.30pm on 7th and 21st May – no charge but do book in advance 02844881204.

For all you doggy fans (and we’re some) there’s a Dog Agility display on 13 May from 11am – 4pm, also at Castle Ward. Normal admission but free to NT members.

On 14th May the wonderful water-driven Corn Mill at Castle Ward bursts into life on National Mills Weekend. Come and see how flour used to be made on the estate. from 2-4pm with demos on the hour. Again normal admission or members free.

For more¬†Days Out around Strangford in May there’s Mount Stewart – just a hop across on the Strangford ferry to Portaferry and a beautiful scenic drive along the western shore of the Ards Penninsula will take you there.

There’s a Car Bazaar on 6th May, a Dawn Chorus Walk on 7th May, Bluebell Walks on 12th and 13th, Explore a Spring Garden on 27th and Jazz in the Gardens (our favourite) on 28th May.

Go to https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/days-out/northern-ireland for more details.

Note from us: It’s really worth joining the National Trust for your visit to the Strangford Lough area, or indeed to Northern Ireland as there are so many beautiful places to visit from stately homes to long sandy beaches to the Giant’s Causeway and Game of Thrones locations! All free admission to members, so if you are planning to spend time in several National Trust run properties, or even to visit one over several days, membership is really good value.
