Set off a quiet country lane just a mile or two from the Irish Sea and lovely Strangford Lough, with all that it can offer, this is the perfect base for a relaxing or activity break.
Go walking, cycling, canoeing, sailing, fishing, wild-life watching, horse-riding ….. Attend a festival or music event, visit ancient Tower Houses and Celtic sites, follow St Patrick’s trail and hunt for Game of Thrones’ locations or your family ancestry, or go in search of the perfect pint of Guinness. Dine out or dine in – have a BBQ – the choice is yours!
Nearby is Castle Ward National Trust property, Clear Sky Adventure Centre and Strangford Village with its pubs, restaurants and car ferry to Portaferry and the Ards Penninsula. Drive or cycle along our County Down Coastal Route ( made famous by Van Morrison) to the fishing port of Ardglass, the pretty villages of Killough and Dundrum and the busy seaside town of Newcastle, framed by the equally famous Mountains of Mourne.
Or venture further to bustling Belfast City, 50 minutes’ drive North, or further again to the Giant’s Causeway, or Derry/Londonderry. Or South to Newry or Dublin, South – West to Armagh ( Cathedral City and famous for its apple- growing region) Omagh ( Ulster American Folk Park) or Enniskillen (more National Trust Properties and the beautiful Lakes). With an early start, all of these are do-able in a day.
The cottage itself has two bedrooms with capacity for four in each. Two sleep on the ground floor (in either single beds or a super-king bed while the other two sleep in a loft accessed by a ladder. One bedroom has ensuite facilities while the other is adjacent to the bathroom. The kitchen/sitting area is large and can be expanded by opening a set of double doors to a paved patio. As with all of our cottages, electricity and oil central heating are included in the published price – no extra charges!
